Clubroot resistant Savoy Cabbage varieties?
« on: December 04, 2008, 12:11 »
Hello

Does anyone know of any clubroot resistant Savoy Cabbage varieties? I haven't seen any in the seed catalouges?

My mother has informed me that I'm getting seeds for Christmas! Yay! So I'm doing some of the legwork for her.

Thanks

I have clubroot, and lots of it (inherited), this is my first season on the new plot and I grew greyhound with great success without doing anything to the ground, most of the older statesman on our site grow these throughout the year not just summer. If you chuck plenty of lime down (I think digger mentioned double liming in Autumn) it will suppress the clubroot, also in winter it die's down anyway. In my mind these resistant varieties are to expensive for what they are worth.

I've also heard that, but we should also mention that those products are now banned from use on soil.
armillotox is now sold as a patio cleaner ;)

The only reason armillotox is sold as a patio cleaner is that the little company that manufactures it did not want to spend the millions of pounds to get it approved for the soil with all this EU beurocrocy and health and safty. I have heard it works for clubroot as well, but lime has the added advantage of releasing the nutrients in soil for the plants.
