I have my new, virgin plot, and have been breaking my back to get it ready before the weather really turns nasty. I am now thinking about marking out my beds. I am going to divide them into three groups: brassicas, roots and legumes. But how big would you recommend the beds to be? I have heard four feet is about right to allow you to reach without having to walk on it. Or does it really matter?

It partly depends on what sized wood you can get hold of. We were going to do beds 2.4m x1.2 m but I'm not sure we can fit 2.4m lengths in the car so we might do 1.8m x0.9m instead

My first ones were 4 foot wide x 12 foot long, any longer and you're tempted to take a short cut  :D

My beds our 4foot by 10foot. did have a bed that was 4by20 but we used to try and jump over it, so we had to put a path throw.

About four feet seems about right. Thanks!

All our raised beds are 4ft wide and it seems the perfect width. Most are 8ft long but we do have 3 which are 20ft long and I dont jump over them as my body is too nackered

Mine are 4ft wide.

Some are 6m long which I've divided in 2 which allows me to hop across them in the middle.

Others are 5m long which is both long enough and short enough  :?  not to be tempted to take short cuts across.
