Garlic in the garden

Garlic in the garden

My onions are growing and Broadbeans are about 2in high but no sign of the garlic.Will they pop up in the winter or next spring?Also do i need to cover the new little Broadbeans or let them be?

Don't know about BB's but the garlic will be along shortly!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

we dont cover our broad beans and you are further south than us so they should be ok

Hi Fruitfull, apparently, according to our local Yoda, the  Pheasants quite like to 'Oik' 'em out, so I have put some netting over, until established. (Iv'e also got a tray full on the go, just in case  :wink:

Your broad beans should be fine. You will probably have to support them a bit when they get bigger. A few canes and string should do it.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Do not coddle the beans. You want them to stay small and hardened until the Spring. They will be growing roots.

Agree to put a wire over them. Not just pheasants, crows will also pull them out.

I have to say,watching the little Broad beans come out of the ground has been a great pleasure.Right fighters they are :D

second that re the crows, i put some field beans in as green manure and the crowstards have pulled a load out.  :evil:
