Yes you can use it, I did for the first time this year. I was a bit doubtfull, at first, that enough light would get through but I was reasured on this site and had great results this year. It does need to be fastened down well though to keep cabbage white buterflies out

I can't travel to South Shields, but was just wondering how/where you can get hold of this without paying a fortune?
thanks

Keep an eye on your local buildings sites, especially those near completion. When they take it down - move in for the kill!

If you have to pay, look on ebay under 'Debris Netting'.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Scaffold netting is exellent for brassicas ....I had no caterpillar damage this year while using it
Top tip Remember to stitch up the attachment holes for total protection!!

Hi,
I used scaffold net this year and it works a treat for covering the cabbages and such like. The cabbage whites didn't stand a chance. I got mine from a building site, only a small piece, about 10 metres long and 2 metres wide. I have looked on the internet and found a company that charges £30.00 for a 50 metre by 2 metre roll . Thats what i will get for next year.
Life is a heap of manure. Growing one minute, stinking the next.

hi there , go to your local scaffolders and ask about any used mesh , opr go on line and buy 100 yds for about £50-00,

we cut ours down the middle , we ended up with 200 yds of 1.5 yds high , enough to coverthe plot 3-4 times,

Is the mesh fine enough to keep out cabbage root fly?

I would put cabbage collars on your brassicas. When your nets are off while weeding etc you can see butterflies hovering about and you can shoo them off!! I really dont know what a cabbage root fly looks like so I think its worth  putting your collars on even if using debris netting.

my mate asked the scaffolder who was "striking" on his site for some netting for me, "for the allotment eh?" said the weary scaffolder and walked away .he later came back with a load of netting, what about that lot over there says my cheeky mate, nah, says the scaffolder i have to bring some back to the yard.  so you see scaffolders are getting used to it, and they don,t want to be fixing old nets on the next job anyway.
