Mabeline has gammy leg...update
She is very bright today, eating and drinking. I gave her the 2nd Injection but am pet sitting from later today and have to go past the vets :D so she is coming with me  I shall let him do the clean up cos I know he will be rougher than me and get to the cause. Once he has cleaned it out and I have watched    I can do the necessaries (done it before with cats and abscesses) its the initial bit cos its all such a mess.
Will let you know how we get on
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most!!

Her daddy is Handsome, a Gold Legbar and her mummy is Martha who is a little fluffy Banty

Well Mabeline is on antibiotics, the vet said it wasn't an abscess and there was no visible wound and so no puss to squeeze out :D thankfully.

Bodgey Boy however has a reliable source that thinks it may be hockburn :?

Glad she's doing ok.

What's hockburn, never heard of that here?
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Thinks its skin burns caused by amonia in their droppings (if they sleep on the floor or nest box for example) and the bit of their legs that sit on the floor are called their hocks?! I think? sure someone will correct me

No you're right Chickenlady. Just waiting for Bodgey to let me know the correct treatment for hock burn. She is still on the antibiotics but the leg is still quite warm. Gonna give it another thorough washing later on and smother it in antiseptic......again. Other than that I dont know what else I can do. Perhaps I could use Aloe Vera gel to cool it down a bit but I would have thought that I need something to counteract the amonia :? Any suggestions gratefully received.

Obviously I know nothing about hockburn but could you smother it in something like sudocream. Works for babies' bums against ammonia.

I would think it would only burn while she's sitting in the poo. If that is what has caused it. But it does look burnt doesn't it. I wonder if the bad leg has stopped her from perching so she's been floor bound for a while.

Presumably just getting her onto a perch and applying tea tree, it should clear up on its own. Aside from any infection treatment of course. :)

I hope it clears up quickly for her.

If you put a piece of wood in (maybe about 2" square? with rounded corners) she may be able to get herself off the floor.

Do you think she's strong enough to get onto a higher perch ?
