constuction fencing for high chicken security??
« on: November 10, 2008, 21:14 »
Hi all you chicken lovers
does anyone use heras construction site security fencing?  approx 3450mm long x  2020mm high,
at the momment were using panels that we constructed ourselves. Im afraid that the weather has got the best of them now and its time to renew them all. :(
consisting of
a frame made from 2 b 1
400mm of close board at the bottom
then 13mm chicken wire

will the security fence look unsightley?    to much like chicken alcatraz you think? :(
I thought that Id use wooden 4x4 posts between each fence section,
also dig the fence in 300mm into the ground which still leaves 1820mm above ground.
maybe no need for electric fence anymore either
I have seen the panels go for as little as 10 pound with local pickup  :)
as new they are very expensive. :(

I await your contructive replies  :D
bye for now

hi Sherif Sprout! (loving the name! :D )

I think you mean the construction temporay fencing? Sounds good if you are going to bury about a foot of it.
The only thing possibly to consider is somehow roofing it securely? Fox wont be able to dig underneath but I wonder if it may be able to climb up the fencing and in that way.
I have seen it used and really good stuff (and cheap too!) :D Dont think it would look too bad either -you could always disguise with some big potted bamboo or something.

hmm thanks for the quick response maybe some razor wire at the top of the fence should sort that problem :D
on a serious note
so a low electric wire,
a slack wire at the top
and some netting which i put over the chicken run,
should keep charlie out i rekon

ahh just had a brain wave!!
what about leaning the fence at an angle so that anything climbing the  outside would be challenged. hmmm!!
nah the angle would have to be acute grr
oh well :?

Hopefully, you could always roof it with Heras too if you a have enough or can span it ok, or a solid roof

i looked at using heras panels ( the nice manager at a local hire firm would let me have slightly damaged ones for £15 a panel delivered), but I have decided to save up for electric fencing.  Even dug in the panels are easily blown over and you'd need to put a finer mesh around the bottom part.
