Even though I hate pigeons with a passion and see them as flyign rats, If you keep them a racing birds they are that person problem an should not be killed for not winning a race gettign lost etc, would this happen in dog or horse racing?

Shoot Them. Pigeons are pests what ever colour they are. Shoot them
always have a target
and an objective.

But it does happen in dog and horse racing.  Why should the owner pay good money when they don't see a return.  The preferred way for dispatching of greyhounds is hanging, making sure their tattoos in the ears have been removed.  Horses are shot or sold to the knacker man, some are rescued and go to retirement charities but not many.

Sorry Stu_wat, but when you're paying for feed and seed for 40 or more birds, it adds up fast, and if you've got a bird that's just freeloading, then you have to get rid of it. Amazing how much a pigeon eats. The idea of racers is to either race them or breed them, not feel sorry for them, especially the ones that are physically damaged. They don't even save racehorses with broken legs so what do you do with a pigeon missing a leg or an eye? At times you have to be cruel to be kind. Not really how I like to approach it, however, if you're willing to pay for the feed.....
