What varieties have done well for you this year?

Owing to illness earlier on I'm still digging mine, but so far:

Earlies - has to be Pentland Javelin
Salad - Definately Charlotte
Lates - As stated, still digging, but Ambo is going to take a bit of beating.

Filled 2 x 25 kg sacks from a 24' row. Had some baked the other day. The two weighed in at a kilo. Top of the list for next year!

Ambo
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I'm so envious!
We've got a real problem with blight and slugs in these wet summers, so I get some good new potatoes from Foremost, but maincrops have been useless.  Last year, blight took hold in June.  Potato crop = 1 bucket.
This year it took hold in July.  Potato crop = 1 bucket.
Next year, we're not growing any maincrop potatoes, just to give ourselves and the veg patch a break.  Sad, but even the blight resistant varieties do not seem to hold up, even with support from Dithane.

One or two of my spuds may have had the blight by the looks of it, but it's certainly not touched my Sarpo Mira, which are highly blight resistant.

Not had too much trouble with slugs this year, despite being late getting them up.

I tried an experiment and when I planted the seed spuds, I threw some slug pellets in the trench. Whether this helped or not, I can't say.

I planted lots of slug food this year but the one they liked least were my Pink Fir Apples, practically untouched, the ungrateful blighters.
Cheese makes everything better.

Yes, they not touched mine either.

Mrs. DD. is not keen on them, says the skins are tough, perhaps the slugs think the same!

Our maincrop got hammered by blight this year.....so next year going just for  arran pilot, they seem to store very well too and the longer they are in the ground the more humungous they grow :)

Nicola has been very successful for me, both last year and this. Good for salad, and for boiling, and quite a few large enough for baking. Also, seems quite slug resistant.

Due to being a bit poorly a few weeks back, I'm a bit behind & still to dig the Desiree, but they are a spud I like very much.

I also still have to dig the Picasso, Isle of Jura, Golden Wonder & Sarpo Mira. (Having a bit of a trial this year!).

Mira is actually quite floury, have quite a thick skin, hence slug resistant, make a great baked spud - if you like crunchy skins! Have never tried the Saxona.

Today I've lifted the Picasso & Isle of Jura spuds.

Picasso are going on the list for next year - large spuds, scarcely a hole.

Isle of Jura look as though they were a sacrificial crop that kept the slugs away from the others!

No, at least not in my experience. It's a very solid spud that can stand a bit of over-boiling.

Hi

For us:

Earlies - Pentland Javelin - 66lb from 45ft (5x9ft rows)
Mains - Desiree - 141lb from 45ft (5x9ft rows)

Going to grow the same next year - wouldn't want to be disappointed but something else that didn't work as well
