Help!! What's eaten my potatoes??

Today we went to dig up the remainder of our potatoes and other bits.
Something has eaten them!

Something has BURROWED up to a foot to eat all of our spuds!

what is it?

how big are the holes? if only a few mm's then I'd guess wireworms; particularly if you have only recently started growing in an area that was fomerly grassland, otherwise if they are big holes then I'd say slugs

either way, you should be able to eat the potatoes over the next couple of weeks and you can store any that haven't been damaged like this or by scab

bad luck I lost 2 + sacks of spuds to slugs this year :evil:

think we'll have to go for the machine gun! The holes are too big for slugs. Not as big as rabbit burrows though. We cant even pick through for good ones. There was nothing left to eat apart from one plant. It was an unbelievable sight
