"rough" eggs

I have two ducks, both lay just about every day. Sometimes one of the eggs is very rough, like extra bits of shell??? It feels as if it should pick off but it doesn't...what causes this?

Hi violet. The roughness is extra calcium deposits on the shell but I'm not sure what causes it.

I know that soft eggs can be caused by heat stress and other sources of stress or shock but this has another cause.
