Whats wrong with my cucumbers???

In the space of a week the leaves have gone from normal (odd one having some mildew) to this.... The plant is fruiting well and the mature fruit looks and tastes ok.

The leaves are very dry and crunch when you touch them.

Is this TMV, or has the cold nights killed the leaves off??

bummer, cut the plant down now, harvested all cucumbers. and i won't be adding it to the compost.

Cucumbers taste alright, and i know for sure that CMV isn't pathogenic to humans.

At least its come at the end of the season.

CMV is Cucumber Moasic Virus.... related to all the other mosaic viruses.

The most well known is Tobacco Mosaic Virus, affecting tobacco plants, it was one of the first viruses to be well characterised.

My cucumbers are always like that with no ill affect. Some leaves are lush and green but over half are always crisp and crunchy dry, therefore I assumed it was normal.

Had an abundance of cucumbers this year as well.

HTH for next year anyway as you've already got rid of them.

Looks like Autumn to me too.... I binned mine about 2 weeks ago, too cool and there was no way I was going to get any more cucumbers, so off to the compost bin they went !

So that I am prepared, if my cucumber plant gets this virus, should I bin the whole plant, also, would any plants nearby be affected by this virus or will it be in my soil?

One last question, how did they catch the virus?!

i reckon it was probably just the cold weather, they were really healthy until we had cold nights..... Fruit was really good.

Mosaic virus can be transmitted by arthropod vector (insects) that munch on the plants, or by human contact especially if you smoke, tobacco mosaic virus can be in cigars and cigarettes.
