Hi

The leaves of some of my plants have suffered over the last couple of days

Raddish


Tomato


Purple Kale


Swede


These all went funny after a very heavy rain and hail storm! is it simply weater damage or is something else to blame?



Also bit worried about my spuds too, they seem to be growing very well but this doesn't look good..





Any ideas whats going on?

The top 3 pix look like flea beatle damage. Try a spray of garlic juice, squirt of dishwash soap and some hot pepper sauce. Repeat after every rain.
the spud leaves look like beatle damage like we get here from Colorado potato bettles. Not sure if the UK has them....yet. Watch for striped beatles munching away or clusters of orange eggs under the leaves. Treatment is bacillus thurengesis (Bt) from garden centres or online. You can also squish them as we do or feed to any chickens.

i'm far from an expert but spud photo looks like the leaves have grown after the initial damage and so ripped/deformed - I'd be thinking of sucking insects like capsids?

The damage to the potatoes was done when the leaves were small and as the leaves have grown the holes have expanded. Could be capsids?

The others may be bruising caused by hail?

As long as the potato damage doesn't affect the tubers i'm happy.

As for leaf bruising it could be! the hail was so hard that it put holes in some leaves!! my sun flower caught it particularly badly!

The raddish leaves have been damaged by the hail with out a doubt. They will grow on with this damage so dont worry. As for the potatoes i reckon beetles and again dont worry the tubers will be undamaged
