Outbreak of Cabin Fever continues here with almost a foot of snow preventing any sort of gardening work.  More falling too.

No golf either so that rules out half of my UserID for this site ...

Hi, I am David and I am looking forward to participating in this site.  I garden (organically) in the Haugh of Glass near Dufftown in the Scottish Highlands.  Wonderful countryside, wonderful golf courses (not crowded) and, of course, wonderful malt whisky.   Sadly though, we pay the same - if not more - for our whisky, as the rest of the UK.   Excise Duty is the problem ... I once saw a litre of Glenfiddich in Abu Dhabi for a THIRD of what it cost at home!  The damned stuff is made only 6 miles from here!

I digress.  Just wanted to introduce myself.

David

I had to do a Google on Daniel Lambert.   Daniel Lambert was born in Leicester on March 13th 1770
Height: 5' 11"
Waist: 9' 4"
Calf: 3' 1"
Weight: 739lbs

I guess he must have eaten all the filberts which grew there before they built the football stadium!

My team are slowly emerging from a long period of dire mediocrity but 11-May-1983 saw me in Gothenburg to see Aberdeen beat Real Madrid in the European Cup Winners Cup final.  No Champions League in those days.  Interestingly (and this is not a political comment), every player was Scottish.   Changed days, sigh ....

Thanks beansticks.  They'll be up for the rugby in Edinburgh right enough.  I'm almost as far away from Edinburgh as you are though - more than a 3 hour drive.

Hi David and welcome,

I'm from your part of the world, almost, Arbroath. Now live in sunny Bournemouth where, apparently, we go frost free two months earlier than you! Just very very wet at the moment.

Spent many - probably too many, days in my youth in the stands at Pitoddrie and other Scottish grounds watching Aberdeen win ( Ah the glorious 80s). Now spend too may days watching the telly and seeing Aberdeen doing, not too badly, and Arbroath - well thats another story!!

My other love- of course- is a dram and down here it seems to cost a small fortune for what is less than a thimbleful! Even a bottle from the local offie requires consideration of a remortgage.I still buy a bottle now and again - once a week/fortnight while I sit and ponder what to plant, when, where and how, but it makes the plot seem lovely after a hard days work digging and helps put life, work and the allotment into total perspective. Not sure the OH would agree with that!

Anyway, I digress too and welcome and slainthe.

Growmore

Hello again and thanks to all who've introduced themselves.  I like this site 'cos it is so responsive.

And Hi to you as well Growmore.  Yes Pittodrie in the 80's was quite a place with the top names of European club football visiting for Euro ties and - as often as not getting beaten.  I was in Gothenberg, 11-May-83, when we beat Real Madrid to win the European Cup Winners Cup.  Glorious days indeed - with an all-Scots squad by the way.

Frost-free!   Let me see, I usually get frosts right through May.  June 7th is the latest one I can remember.  They usually start again in mid to late September.  Sept 7th is the earliest I can remember.  This year was amazing since we had no frosts until early November.
