Hi there, I am a complete beginner , my husband has had a veggie patch in the past  but for the last couple of years ( since having another baby!) we haven't had as much time in the garden. We are lucky to have a large garden so want to reap the benefits of growing our own veg and also are hoping to get some chickens soon!I have got a plot prepared and want to start planting stuff now, but don't have a clue what I can plant this time of year, could anyone help please?

thankyou! were they planted as seeds or did you start them off in the greenhouse. I have no greenhouse so will be starting off with seeds. Brassicas - are they cabbages etc?
sorry I am a complete beginner!

brassicas = cabbage, cauli, brocs and kales  :D

I like to sow Bordeaux spinach in September.

Just got a bag of heat treated onion sets to plant out. That would be a good first crop for you, and garlic. Garlic is in the garden centres or by mail order now.

The back of the seed packet is important so read it before sowing and then hopefully you won't make the mistake of sowing at the wrong time.  If I were you I'd lend some books from the library. Joy Larkcom veg growing book is excellent, and you can buy a book from here written by our John Harrison who has split the various tasks into monthly segments so is easy to follow  :D
