Good news today (hopefully)
« on: September 12, 2008, 08:48 »
After my sad day yesterday :( it looks like things might be getting better. It looks like 4 of my eggs have started to hatch. :)

In the incy we have 6 of our fertile (mixed variety) eggs and 4 that we got from ebay (sasso). The 4 which are starting to hatch are from our eggs, but the ones from ebay aren't doing much yet. I am sure 2 of them were viable at 18 days, the other two it was difficult to say (there were 6 but 2 were taken out early on)

lets hope all turns out ok (especially as I have to leave them while I go to work).

The best thing that you could do is actually go to work. :D

The last thing that emerging chicks want is poking at and interferring with. I cringe at some of the attempts at 'help' given to hatching chicks, that I've seen on this and other forums, I really do   By far the best approach, is to leave well alone. People should realise that chicks take time to hatch and that its a very tiring and arduous process for them. They take it in stages and have to have long rest periods in between. Nature knows best, leave it to them and resist trying to help them. many healthy chicks are doomed by interferring fingers.

I'm sorry for hi jacking your post but its something that I feel strongly about. Get off to work and don't worry  :D  and hopefully, by the time you get home, you'll be greeted by some nice healthy fluffy chicks.

Well When I got home, I found we had 2 chicks hatched, an ickle yellow one, a mottley one and the other 2 eggs had holes in them. Since then a black one has hatched and the other seems quite happy pecking away.

I can completely understand where bodger is coming from, but Sarah did give me some good advice when one of my previous eggs struggled to get out after more nearly 2 days of trying. The chick was survived up until yesterday (3 weeks old) :(

Struggling to get pictures on due to computer problems, but we did take a really cute video of the black one hatching (through the incy glass :) )
