You should price up the cost of a PM first.      The chance of your local vet knowing what he's looking for is extremely slim, so two scenarios arise. You pay quite a bit of money for a vet who knows nothing to chop your chicken up or you pay even more for your vet to post your chicken off to a laboratory.

The other thing to consider is this. On the one occasion that my chickens came down with a mystery illness, I contacted a good chicken vet but he wanted a live chicken to do his PM on.

Its easy to say " get a PM done on your 'chook'"  but in practice, its somewhat more involved and complicated and the fact that you may have lost one or two hens does not very often merit the procedure. Hens die from time to time, thats what they do, its one of those things and its not always necessary or possible to know why.

Did you not lose your others Josh? to it? thought you had a PM then.  It may be that the infection is still in the ground.  I would do as Aunty says, but is it your meat birds? I was under the impression once treated you couldn't eat them or use the eggs again, I may be wrong though.  I hope it turns out ok for you.

There may or not be a withdrawl period with various drugs but its never permanent.

Thanks for that Bodger, I have just been browsing & have found quite a few mentions regarding Oregano in their feed as oil or dried, has been very interesting.

I suggested a PM because I thought Josh had lost a few to the same thing.

But I did imagine it was a standard procedure for any vet. Luckily, we've never needed vet treatment yet. Hopefully, ours will know one end of a chicken from the other.

And hopefully, if you gve them some treatment, you won't have any reccurrence.

Finger crossed.
