Morning everyone,

Just looked outside and ice on the cars, made me think of me chillies.

Can chillies survive outside at 5 degrees?

They are currently in a green house with the door wide open. But i can bring them inside if needed.

Thanks for looking

Mine are out on the plot with a piece of glass over them and they seemed fine last time I looked. Could do with some sun to ripen them though

Got some in the greenhouse and the door is wide open too

They wont' survive icy conditions though and the first frost will put paid to them I would have thought.

There was a ground frost last night in a few places with is a bit worrying this early in Autumn. Chillis won't survive it particulary with all the wet about as well. However, a lot of other crops that are usually fine in September like Pumpkin could also get hit if we have another night like last night.

I don't think you went wrong, mother nature went wrong. Some of my chilli plants have loads of green heatless chillis, some have a fair few nice and hot chillis, others are still just flowers and no fruit. Nothing to do with location and for example 2 chilli plants of the same type next to each other, 1 loads of fruit (if no heat) and 1 no fruit but loads of flowers.. going to bin the plants with no chillis on at the weekend as there is zero chance of getting anything from them now... partic with rain forecast for the next 10 years!!! :( :(

My chillies are very spoilt. They spend all their time sat in my bay window in the lounge. Ive had loads of chillies but i started mine off late January so mine had a head start.

Chillis not keen on temps below around 10 deg C.  And certainly won't set fruit.  I'd shut door and use one of those little frost beater heaters (mines been on all summer)

I've just had to move a load of mine from outside (greenhouse stacked to gills), put them everywhere I can.  Fruit rotting/dropping due to constant rain.  I'm now looking at the daughters "wendy house" with a view to putting them in there.   These are long term plants, they're in their second yr now in large tubs and looking for many more from them.

I took the plunge and brought mine indoors, I dont want to loose them, one has chilles on and the other is just starting to fruit but has about 40 flowers on it. They are now sat re-potted on the kitchen window sill

I have chilli plants everywhere now, had to bring them all inside before they all go rotten. In the porch, kitchen and bathroom windowsills all full of either chillies or green tomatoes or onions!
