I got one of those rigid moulded pond liners for my birthday which has been great. A bit pricy but dead easy to install. Just dug the hole and bedded it in. Not that I did much of the digging
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Likewise with our little pond. About 15 quid off ebay. Dug the hole, bedded and filled it within an evening.  :D

But then I like digging holes

They do have to scrape a bit to get out because it's fibreglass with straight sides. Wonder if you might drape soem sacking over the side ?

I've seen some Frog shaped paddling pools on ebay go for as little a 99p.

There is one on there at the moment at 50p but don't think it is local to you.

Whatever you get, its needs to be easily emptied and cleaned, otherwise it will quickly become a stinking green ooze. We had a bath for our ducks  but we didn't bury it, we actually propped it up and then put a ramp upto it. It worked really well.
