My little crop of Mange Toute and regular peas have come to an end (early Aug 08 ).

I would normally follow on with a squash plant or corgette but these are all in now. I cant follow on with Carrots because of the high Nitrogen content in the soil from the Peas.

What catch crop can people suggest that I could follow on with in this high Nitrogen bed before the winter kicks in?

I could put a cold frame on this bed.

I will want to dig this bed over in winter so can't be anything over-wintering.

Cheers!

1st thing that come to mind is loose leaf lettuce, either that or green manure it and dig in over winter.

I had forgotten about green manure - just thinking about my belly, forgot about feeding the soil!

Good point, thank you.

I will be following with potatoes next year - any suggestion for the best green manure for potatoes to follow?

Mustard hardens cysts from potato eel worm, but this is best after the spud crop. Maybe annual lupins to bring the Nitrogen levels up for the potatoes next year maybe?

Brassicas a good idea after Beans and Peas. You may have swayed my plans from Potatoes. I could follow Brassicas with Potatoes having put on plenty of muck.

So I could follow my Peas with a leguminous manure crop for a super boost of Nitrogen!
