Well done you for offering them a better life.  I can't get over how those who raise chooks as a profession can bear to see them in such a state.  I love to see my hens in good health, running about and doing henny stuff.

They do keep you engrossed don't they? I am now the official local chicken bore - although it is amazing how many people, when I CASUALLY mention the fact, either want chickens or have chickens themselves.

Just been out to the run, and there on the grass was another perfect egg, thats two in the first day !!

Hello Tezzer.  There seem to be a few of us who have recently got ex-bats.  I picked my 3 up on Friday and was quite worried about one of them, but thankfully she seems to be picking up now and wanders out into the run quite freely now.  For some reason I can't open your photos, but I'm guessing they're much like mine - very tatty to say the least!  It's so lovely to watch them blossoming and gaining confidence day by day. And they've been laying too bless 'em, had 2 eggs yesterday!  I assumed they'd near enough come to the end of their laying days and thought the stress alone would put them off laying anyway.

Do you have other chickens?  Just I have 3 others (not ex-bats) and I've been keeping them separate for the time being, until the ex-bats are strong enough to hold their own.  I guess in a couple of weeks I'll be able to put them all together?  Hopefully there won't be too many problems!

HLT well done for the re homing the ex batts.  I have four ex batts and did have two Normo chucks, but that is another story.  I got the ex batts on  the 19/07/08 about 3pm and put them straight in with the Normo's.  There was a bit of fighting Chucked the Normo's out of the run (they free range normaly) they spent the night together in the coop and the next day all was ok. A little bit of fighting.  They are tough old birds and they have had to fight for there food.  So dont worry about them too much. I would not.  :oops:  Honest
