Is this normal...in ducks???
« on: July 29, 2008, 08:41 »
Ok, so I have gone through the gender issue with the rabbits and I am quite used to the girls all playing "mummies and daddies" together....BUT having been a duck owner for only almost two days (both female) I find that one of them is mounting (do we call it mounting in birds?) the other ...always the same one on top as it were    the other one doesn't protest.

Do they do it just cos it's fun ....or....are they sorting out who is in charge in their new home????

My older ducks 2 girls and a boy quite often swop around, many a time I've found Maisy "trying" to do the do with Daisy

Sure it's nowt to worry about, they still lay eggies etc thay just enjoy playing piggy back as Babe would say  :D

the person who gave them to me said they were both girls...also, had 2 eggs yesterday although didn't actualy see each duck lay one...today only 1 egg so far which I presume is because of their house move....

ALSO... The one who is doing it as opposed to the one who is being done unto doesnt seem to have got quite the correct position...just sort of sits right on top of the lower duck, rather than where the "moving parts are"  Oh my goodness I am trying to be so discreet about this (very unusual for a nurse, we usually just say it as it is but not usually  on the internet!

As they say in my part of Staffordshire " whats up my duck ? " In your case, I'd be highly suspicious that perhaps I had a pair of ducks, ie one of each gender.
Either way, its nothing to worry about, even though gay female ducks are not something that I've come across before in the farmyard.

Some how the theads tend to go astray in this forum.  May be it is the type of people attracted to chickens.
