too late to grow swedes???

i've got a patch of ground spare and wondered if it was too late to grow some swedes? i don't want to waste my time if they probably wont turn out alright, as the missus can have it for wallflowers :shock:

i thogth perhaps i could bring the seeds on faster by planting in toilet roll tubes and then planting them out, ( i did this for parsnips and it worked a treat).
