Ours keep getting loose, undid the big plastic nut, looked like the washer was upside down, turned it over, blades still get loose after a few cuts
Any ideas
Draper is the make

Thanks

Maybe it's my total ineptitude...

I spent ages sharpening my old shears, oiling them, and generally giving them a good old bit of attention.
First time out, they still only "fold" the long grass, and don't cut. The only way they do cut (rip, more like) is to get a good clump of grass in them, close them and pull.

Any tips where I'm going wrong ?

check the shears edges meet level and no gaps come inbetween the blades on closing them. second take them to a good ironmongers to have them sharpened or place one of the blades in a vice and taking a smoothing file .( fine grained ) start at the nut end and slide the file along it with a little 2/1 oil keeping to the profile of the edge of the blade. do this about 4 or 5 times depending on the state of the blade .now do the other blade /then check both back edges for small burrs . check the tightness of the nut tighten or loosen until the blade edges meet without snagging or chafing they should just meet smoothly coming against each other  . using clippers is one of those tasks you need to know about but dont come with instructions .use the ends of the shears dont try and chop big lumps or over work the grass by chopping willy nilly just clip in short strokes at an angle that is comfortable for you as close to the ground as possible but without digging the tips in..

there are some dodo shears in the shop. I paid £21.99 for Wilkinson Sword thinking they'd be a good investment. Were they eck as like     Just folded on the grass as Novice described, instead of cutting it. What a crock of dooh dah

So dug out a pair of ancient rusty ones and took em to be sharpened. Lovely jubbly  :D

Who says you get what you pay for  :(
