Well, you'll get a bigger choice of more specialised varieties than you would from off the shelf plus they'll send you some great discount offers especially if you ignore their 1st catalogue.

T&M will send a £5 voucher or a 2-3 free seed offer if you don't order from their 1st seed catalogue.

I'm not tight, but they're not losing any money and I get a bargain. :D

it's also a way to familiarize yourself with variety names, both common and latin, and general growing conditions, etc. A good read plus some good savings if they have what you're looking for.

Do you include on-line catalogues also?

If so, there's the offers to be found there as well.

For instance T & M do a 'spend £10, get the most expensive packet free".

I've just ordered a £7.99 packet of cucumber seed, plus another packet of seed valued at £2.39.

Total cost with postage - £4.38, effectively I've saved £6 on that packet.

You can afford that packet of seed that would normally cause you to make a sharp intake of breath!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

You can sit at home with your feet up and a cup of coffee and pick what you want to grow. No shopping trolleys to run into you, no sceaming kids running around and no fuel cost!! Plus, I hate shopping for anything, I do it all on line. The delivery vans now come to our house when it's not for us because they are so used to coming here.  :?

My favorite seed catalogue from Chilton Seeds arrives just before Christmas. I take time over Christmas to prepare my order, then order on line. It would not be Christmas without it.

I love a good browse through the seed catalogues. Very relaxing and educational too  :D   Curled up in bed with a cuppa or glass of wine just scheming and planning garden and plot, adding it all up then being horrified and beginning over again, then comparing the different prices. Keeps me busy

I've only recently taken to buying seed in the shops (wilcos ;) ), and have had no cause for complaint but it's much easier to phone in and get sent a repalcement than get to the shops. Can't do that if you bought off the shelf though.

Some catalogues are cheaper than most shops (including B&Q).

No prizes for guessing I'm a Wilcos fan :tongue2:
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".
