Allotments vs Olympics
« on: January 17, 2007, 15:31 »
Hi everyone!  Sorry to have such a serious topic on my first ever post but it is something that it obviously close to my heart even though I don't have a plot on this site.  Basically they want to wipe out a whole site that has been allocated as allotments for the past century to build the olympic stadium.  I heard about the petition from another forum and it needs as many signatures as possible.

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/manorgardens/

This is a short video about the site and the people who have plots there.

Thanks and apologies if you have already heard about this or signed the petition. ( or if it is on the wrong board!)

Hi Lottie Lady and welcome to the forums.
Very interesting post. I had heard about it, but didn't know about the petition so I've signed up

I have just signed up, and I think its disgusting that peoples "gardens" are going to be destroyed for a Games that are going to cost us billions and not make "us" anything.

Signed and I wish you all luck in the world but I fear the corporates will win as this goverment is so shortsighted is not interested in its people anymore, it just comes down to money.

Just signed, Lottie Lady.  I also have my fears that this government listen to no-one.  Getting the Olympics was just another vanity project.  Four weeks of ripping off tourists, then years of regret for what was devastated for this cause.  The only winners here are big business with the contracts handed out by New Labour to Tony's cronies.  Yes, I cried with happiness when they first beat the Tories, now I cringe with shame.

I think I read somewhere that the plots where protected by covenant and to get round it they where going to dig up the plots save the top soil and then put it back after !! of course this make it all alright  :x

Thank you everyone for your welcome and for signing the petition. :D  It's good that the Manor Gardens allotmenteers will know that there are lots of people all over the country that are on their side.    A special thank you to Aunt Sally for posting on it another forum too!  It's true what they say about gardeners - they really are nice people! :D

Ive been reading lots of the threads and picked up some very good tips - I think I am going to like it here

I've just signed. I'm proud to say I've NEVER voted Labour and NEVER will. This is not a government, it's a DICTATORSHIP. Of course the allotments will be dug up and forever lost to make way for the olympics, just as sure asTony Blair sent troops to Iraqu when 95+% of the nation were against it and just as sure as he's given the green light for more nuclear power stations instead of looking at alternative "clean" sources of fuel.
"Flying" Cyril.

Sadly, have to agree with Flying Cyril on this one.  The allotments will be lost.  We do have a dictatorship in this country.  I've voted Labour for most of my life but will never do again.  Living in this country is really depressing for us indigenous types, must be why so many of us are desperate to move to another country.  Never thought I would hear myself say that, but it seems so true.
