Yipee, 1st harvest
« on: May 31, 2008, 18:34 »
Hi,
I feel a bit of an idiot telling everyone but I had my first radishes and lettuce today.  Ate the first radish down the allotment straight out of the ground, yum.
It won't be long before I will have new potatoes and strawberrys.  Will the strawberrys make it home, that is the big question

Congrats!

I've been harvesting radishes for a couple of weeks now but brought them on in pots at first. :) I've never grown them before but am pleased. :) mainly for our guinea pigs, but we had them on salad today :).

Isn't it lovely to get some 'reward' for our labour! :)

Had exactly the same experience this week.  Picked our first radishes and lettuces.  Feels great to finally have grown something to eat.

Good luck with the rest of your produce.

You're not an idiot because if you are then so am I.  I got excited about getting another squash seed to germinate today.  I'm so excited, I've never had squash except in soup (which I really like) and can't wait to try some roasted.  I think I will have to wait some time to do that though

I get excited about all things growing and when I get my first taste of what it was I took the time to grow.

That's the big bonus of veggie growing!  You get to eat it too!

Well done for getting your first harvest.

And I got excited about a pak choi I pulled today, even though there was nothing much left of him when cooked
Well done Sharon, great fun isn't it? Roll on your next crops

It never ceases to amaze me that you can put a tiny (and in some cases they really are tiny!!) seed in a pot or in the ground and it grows into something delicious!

Like an idiot I watered in the french beans I planted out a few days ago, and most of them are dead as they got sun scorched, but I put a load of Alderman peas in strips and they are all coming along marvelously, so I'll put them in instead as the canes are all sitting there with not much to do!!!

Not an idiot at all, Sharon! I've yet to harvest anything - I only got my plot a month ago - but my seedlings fill me with joy.

Here's idiot number 2
We harvested our first potatoes, lettuce and radish yesterday and had them all for tea. A fantastic sense of achievement.

It's lovely when you sit there and say 'well that was a really cheap meal' because you haven't put money in the pockets of Tes.. Sai.... et al.  But then   I feel guilty when in the supermarket because I haven't got any veg in my trolley.  Can we have a sign printed that says 'I grow my own'

I had my first broad beans today.  I've never had them before.  I've also found another squash has germinated.  That's three now.  I just hope I like squash!
