A few hours of normal chicken life....
« on: May 30, 2008, 14:00 »
My Oh has just rang to tell me he has had to "do the right thing" to one of our new ex-batts.  He found it earlier with blood coming our of its mouth, moved it into another stable in a snuggly box, checked it an  hour later and it was very floppy and going down hill quickly.  So he did the decent thing and sent it to chicken heaven.

None of the others have any problems, so don't know what happened to this one.  there is no rat poison around, which was my first thought, so don't know what could have happened.  Am only glad it had a couple of days out of a battery cage and a bit of a chance to scratch around and see sunlight.

Will be watching the rest like a hawk for the next few days.

OH i'm so sorry, such a sad story but as you said you give that poor little chicken a  couple of days of peace and freedom the likes she has never known.

Ahh what a shame   at least she had a good few days doing normal chicken things.

I hope that all the others continue to be ok

Poor girl. Glad your OH was around and able to do the right thing by her. :)
And that she had a couple of days of freedom.
I'm sure it's nothing that could have been helped and at least she didn't continue to suffer. ((Hugs))

The other 5 are still alive and kicking.  Just waiting for them to get the hang of pellets at the moment, they dont seem to know quite what to do with them. Mind you, they certainly know what to do with the corn I put down last night, it disappeared in double quick time  :D  :D  :D

Bless them! :) hopefully they'll get the hang of the pellets, were they fed on mash before? Could you wet the pellets a little? or is that giving in? lol

It's always a difficult thing to do, well done your OH.  :(  Hope the rest are ok and can look forward to their new life of freedom. They're no longer just "egg laying machines"! :)
