Cool looking chickens
« on: May 27, 2008, 22:42 »
If the chicken eggs in my incubator don't hatch[because I'm not sure they will, I haven't seen any form of life   :?  ] I want to buy some chicken eggs off the internet.. But I want really neat looking ones. lol. I was thinking about Silkies because I love their cool hair. But are there any really neat looking ones that can survive in PA weather? They don't have to be amazing eggs layers at all. So I was just wondering..

Silkies are fairly tough and can cope with cold though aren't good in wet conditions.

I'm sure Babe would suggest Polands they look cool, and I have a Sultan looks cool too though she's a bit of a hippy.  Not sure what they're like regarding extreme weather though (Sultans aren't supposed to be particularly hardy).

Well it gets really cold here in the winter, and in the summer it can be quite wet. But we have large barn that they would have full access too which would stop any wind and would be completely dry.

just wondering why i dont remember seeing any pictures of your sultan fat hen    hint hint  :D

faverolles are a very pretty hardy breed, if you want little ones, hamburghs are pretty and dont mind what the weather is. jersey giants are fun, so is the norfolk grey

if youre really after a chook to be noticed, then the transyvanian naked neck looks fragile but is a strong little bird..... i sooooo want another naked neck, mr foxy got my cuddles

the best breed for wet conditions seems to be the marsh daisy, tho not sure if you can get them in america

silkies and polands arent really suitable for constant bad weather.

ok im waffling now.. not awake yet
