I know the title sounds very daily mail, but the flowers bare a resemblance to deadly nightshade. While I know some relatives are very edible, does anyone know what this is? It's a 8ft tall tree / bush

right I'm giving up. thought I could do this...

basically, its a flower very similar to potato flower, with 5 lilac pointed petals and quite a fat bright yellow style then a long thin stamen. About size of a 10p, perhaps slightly smaller. Has thinish pointed leaves (5cm). On a small tree.

If only I could upload..

Chilean potato vine is one of the garden plants with such flowers, but that's a climber, most of them in the family will be poisonous, don't eat them. :)

It is a member of the Solanum family.(POTATO) Iused to have something similar in a plant pot as a houseplant but cant remember the name. There are loads of varieties it could be but they are poisonous to humans (not necessarily animals)

They look really pretty, but I have a baby who likes putting everything in his mouth. I am in the process of getting rid of lots of firethorn, prickly firs, etc and wonder whether this should go - its a lot prettier than the others though.

most things in the garden seem to be poisonous!  i take the line of teaching kids not to touch unless i am very sure they know what it is, failing that when they are very small, a playpen!  having said that, my mum taught us not to touch and eat stuff but we still managed to ingest a substantial amount of laburnum seeds one year!   Not to be recommended, can't remember ever being so sick as i was then (after a dose of warm salt water), have been sick phobic ever since!  As I recall my parents were throwing a dinner party that night, my sister and I were not popular!!  And i think at some point in the evening every guest had been upstairs to empty the sick bucket!!
