They should seen catch up, (don't know how much longer we can say that), especially if you can give them a start by germinating in a cold frame or cool greenhouse.

I use seed tray inserts, one seed to a cell, pot into 3" pots when the first 2 true leaves develop & then plant out when about 6-8" high.

I suffer from club root, (well, not me personally), and if they go in with a good root system initially, it gives them a fighting chance. It will also give them a good start even if you don't suffer from it.

There are so many varieties available these days, everyone will have their own favourite. I've always had good results with 'Trafalgar'.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Mine are just popping up, sowed them about 5 days ago, I never rush mine mainly as there is only me that eats them at home so I always plan for them to be ready around mid end of November. It is very important your ground is well prepared, lots of muck should of been added, the ground needs to be rock hard, I have been walking on my bed now for about 5 weeks so it is pretty compact, if it is loose they will blow.
Punk isn't dead...it's underground where it belongs. If it comes to the surface it's no longer punk...it's Green Day!

I am growning sprouts for my in laws as I don't like them.  They are at the moment in a seed tray should I move them to individual pots?  Also my alltoment soil is very sandy should I just walk up and down on it to compact it and roughly when should I plant them up at the allotment?  Sorry for so many questions but it is my first year and I feel like a new kid at school.
40 hens, 8 cockerels, 3 dogs, 2 rabbits, 8 chinchillas, 2 teenage daughters and O/H

Yes and Yes, we also have very sandy soil, I tend to wait until it rains then go tramping. Once the propper leaves appear on the shoot get them into pots to bring on. As regards to final planting I aim mid july.

Some are going in around me about now, but I want them nov/dec so mine go in that bit later, they need a good frost to sweeten them up.
