Dumbass question number 1.

I bought a load of spuds off eBay, they are all ready to go in, first earlies and second earlies, both going in together..

How far apart do I plant them within a row, and what approx what distance between rows.

Simple answers please, Im a complete novice

Mine go in 12-15" apart 2 foot between rows.

Cheers lads, much appreciated, I was thinking similar but it's a bit daunting when you start out.

used to dig me grandads garden when I was younger and I loved it, he had a whole part of his garden full of spuds, guess thats what we lived on in those days lol.

Ta dumbass question number 2 will be pumpkins and Butternut squash I think...wait for it haha

I would certainly do this if there was a likelyhood of a frost, but not do it as a matter of course.

I've mentioned this a few times elsewhere, that in common with any plant, spuds need light on their leaves to make food. Cover them up & they can't.

That's one reason I'm in favour of gradual hilling up through the growing season, rather than starting them under a large ridge.

Some do, some don't, it's a matter of choice & I've given one of the reasons I do it that way.

The other reason is that doing it several times during the growing season helps break up the soil & keeps the weeds down, especially early on.

Also, it helps to increase the amount of spuds, you get.
