I had a duck and a drake and the duck was killed this week.  The drake is now very lonely but I'm worried about introducing companions.  
I got the originals as just hatched ducklings but if I get more ducklings at that age, it will be months before they are big enough to be let near my drake.  
There are wild duck on the nearby river.  At the moment, I have him in my fenced garden so he can't get to the river but I could give him access.  Would that be a good idea?  Can anyone suggest a solution?

Any advice would be gratefully received!

If it were me I think I'd try and get some more adult females or re-home the drake.
What type of ducks are they??

If you let him out on the river, that would be it, you'd never see him again.He'd survive for a while and probably mongerelise ( bad spelling to the forefront :oops: ) the local population of wild duck and the fox would probably get him as well in the end. I'd get him a couple or more females to go with him because drakes are very randy and can really knock a single female about.

Thanks for the advice.  I think I have found someone who can let me have two adult females to keep him company so I hope they all settle down together
