Veg and a warm wall
« on: April 06, 2008, 20:17 »
I have a lovely 4 foot high wall at the bottom of the garden with a large border running along it - about 15ft long and 18 inches wide.  It's quite a warm and sunny spot and I would like to grow some veg against it/along it  instead if flowers or border plants.  What would you suggest?  Peas, sprouts???
Are we nearly there yet?

I think most veg would appreciate the warmth of a warm wall at night as long as it doesn't shade them from the sun.

Tomatoes would benefit from shelter and some extra warmth.

Whatever you do don't plant potatoes and dont dig the soil too deeply right next to the wall.

I did this next to a wall once and when I dug them up the wall collapsed.

Oops!  I'll keep that in mind.

Tatties are going in containers, toms will be in the greenhouse as we're in North East Scotland so can't guarantee the weather for outside toms.

Anyone else have some suggestions as to which veg to grow?

sunny wall, any veg you like  :D .  Globe artichoke  at the back, mange tout peas up a climbing frame, herbs will love full sun. Why not toms if it's in full sun, beans too, lettuces, carrots, parsnips, radishes, I'd mix some flowers in there too
