Over Feeding

I've read a few comments opining that you can over feed a plant with fertiliser/plant food.

Erm, can you, and whats the likely outcome.

I ask because I may have been over feeding my fruit bushes, disolved fish/blood/bone and a concentrated dose fruit feed, every three days on average, about 1 litre per plant.

I didnt think it would be possible to give them too much of a good thing...

I'm so rubbish at this
We use chemicals in this garden, just as god intended

it is possible to overfeed plants, easily in fact.  You can overfeed and get tonnes of leaf instead of fruits.  If you follow the instructions on the product you can't go far wrong  :D   Plant food is expensive so you want to use it wisely  :D

I'm not feeding any fruit at the moment as nothing has swelling fruits on it yet.

Dominic - you must write 100 times 'I am not rubbish just a little inexperienced'. Stick with this site and you will soon be offering your own advice. :)

I'm curious Dominic as to why you're feeding the plants so often? Mine are lucky if they get fed once a month with anything.

Another drawback to overfeeding is that with all the lush fast growth you'll get, the growth is soft and a megaphone call to aphids and all other pests. You're going to have a hard time with pests this year until the plants recover and slow down to proper growth rate.

"I'm curious Dominic as to why you're feeding the plants so often?"

Just kind of feed them when I'm there, I'd just assumed more = better.

Oh well, no more food for a while then.

Especially with the fruit, a lot of the feed will just get washed out of the soil and end up polluting your nearest stream.  That's why a lot of streams (especially ones with cattle pastured nearby) are green and stinky - too much nitrogen!

Plus the plants are more vulnerable to disease and pests if they're too lush.  Think of it like people - 2000 calories a day will do for most of us, maybe 3000 for an athlete, but 10,000 would make you very ill, or at best very fat!
