Hen keeper for ONE WEEK!
« on: March 23, 2008, 09:41 »
We hve just completed our first week as "Hen keepers"  what  la ovely week it has been.  We hve been given one Pekin Lavender one black rock and one black rock cross.  If we enjoy the experience we are going to get a few more...so far, it hs been a very positive experience.  The girlies have such charecters and are so friendly...oh and yes the eggs have been lovely..only two during the week from the Pekin, but one each dy from the others!

Glad you are enjoying your hen keeping experience, they have such characters. Hubby was putting up new fencing to keep them in the field and they were so nosey about what he was doing, he had 14 girls all wanting to see exactly what he was doing, it was really funny.
Happiest in the countryside.
Breathe deeply, and let the butterflies fly in formation!

Monty's knocking on the back door to come in at the moment. He wants to watch Man U v Liverpool with "Daddy". (He loves cricket too though as his name suggests)

Louisa (our young son named them)  is so nosey, she is in through the patio door before I can turn to shut it!

You sound like a born chicken keeper Violet - they are a perfect pet.  You'll love it in the summer when you can share your picnic with them    :D

I am amazed every day by things I learn about the hens....Of the three it is obvious that Louisa is the "boss" where she goes the others follow.  Today I had to get them back into the hen house when workmen arrived...Louisa went in easily as she wanted the tasty treat I had for her....when the other two realised she was not with them they were so anxious untilI reunited them...ahhhhh
