Ok. Update.

He/she is making little chirping sounds.
Still inside the shell, in fact he/she seems very comfy.

Our dogs are most put out. They are not centre of attention at present.
We have had our chooks for a couple of years now but this is the first time trying to hatch.

I made the incubator myself out of an old freezer.
It took some time to get the temperature correct. The humidity was achieved
by wetting the bulbs three or four times a day.

We only put two eggs in (just as a trial). One is hatching so that's at
least a 50% success rate.

the water tub in the corner, any chance you can put some stones or something in it. chicks are fantastic at drowning very quickly in the shallowest of dishes. i'd hate anything to happen

That's just for moisture at the moment.
We have shallow dishes for water.

When would you expect it to take water?
