Butter used to be $2.00 last year now it's 4......tasty cheese used to be tasty, now you have to buy vintage tasty at $12.00 for 500gm! I'm just very lucky and grateful we can still afford it.

2 NZD is about 80p in proper money so it now being £1.60 isn't too far away from our prices. I suspect our volume retailers are holding it down.

Food is a global market and the rise in basic grain costs is having a knock on effect throughout the market. In the west we feel the pinch, in many parts of the world malnutrition.

I just made butter in a kitchen whiz today and it turned out great! Didn't save any money buying the cream but the satisfaction is still good

Brilliant!

We picked up a magazine with an article about making butter - they suggested you put the cream into a jar and shake, and shake and shake.

The reason some may have been shown that method at school is that they didn't have whizzers and electric whisks at school. Most kitchens now have an electric whisk - they're about £8.00 in comet - so why work harder than you need to?

On the other hand, shaking or whisking by hand can be good stress relief.  Like beating up bread dough.

What if the Hokey Cokey IS what its all about...

I think it's about half a pound to 500mills -

It doesn't make economic sense unless you get your cream cheap. Don't worry if it is a last day of use reduction, that's fine.

Just being thick here. For making the butter do you have to shake in jar AND whisk or is it one or the other? :?

Just use a whisk Matron - takes minutes and it's easy peasy.
