For the last 4 days i've been leaving the door of the run open to let my ladies have some freedom for the first time ever!!! But they were too scared to leave and kept putting their heads out and running back to the coop for comfort and safety.

Until yesterday!!! I opened the nest box to look for eggs and Lucy made a dash for it. I opened the run door and the others soon came out to see what she was up too!!!

All 4 came out and have been really stretching and exercising their wings, scratching for worms, pulling up my bulbs (then discarding them :roll:

) and doing a heck of a lot of rosey when they discovered my daughters space hopper!!!

They're sooooooooo cool, I just love them to bits and now they've had a taste of freedom thats it no going back!! They're now free range for at least 4-5 hours a day as long as i'm in. I just keep a window open and they soon let me know if somethings wrong. They made a heluva racket today and it was a blackbird sitting on the fence post :roll:

Bless them they look real happy, it's really exciting seeing them out for the first time I couldn't stay away from mine

Thanks Aunty! I can't imagine how hateful their first 18 months were but i'm detemined to make it a distant memory for them!!!

My OH was a little cool to the idea of them but is now completely charmed (was within minutes :roll: ) and they've become celebrities at his work place because everyone really like to hear about them.

poor little things it makes me so angry that they treat the chooks like that

but im glad that this lot have a loving home now they look much happier than they must have been

Ah! Nice to see them enjoying a bit of freedom. What's her name, the one with the space hopper :?: She looks like she's trying to work out what to do with it. If you hear a commotion tommorrow with hens version of cheering you'll know she's worked it out and others are cheering her on

The one with the space hopper is henny penny :roll: I have a four year daughter!!!
