There is a very scary photo of Monty Don in full 80s garb in the book he and his wife wrote, "The Jewel Garden".

I subscribed to the mag when I first took on the lotty and tried to watch every GW on the telly (UKTV Gardens sometimes puts loads of them on during the day, old one's and new ones) but too much of it was irrelevant (as you say, tropical gardens too many flowershows and not enough about growing veg) and this applied to the mag as well so I stopped my subscription and I now subscribe to Amateur Gardener and Grow Your Own which are much more informative mags.

I agree with you it was never the same but Alan Titchmarsh I could put up with Monty Don is another thing all together.

I also liked Pippa Greenwood, Anne Swithinbank and Bob Flowerdew

If you like the "good" parts of GW id recommend using BBCi player, you can watch the prog online but fast forward through the useless (to you) parts

I agree, geoff had a wonderful talent and made you feel part of the programme. He made gardening look easy, even if it looked hard.
GW was never the same when he passed on.

Have to agree with you all.

Been watchin Geoff hamilton repeats and he wins hands down. This new series sends me to sleep.(mind you Monty Don has that effect.Something about me does not take kindly to being preached at).
Bring back good old practical hints and tips .just how many of us can afford a whole orchard of mature apple trees
Sorry the programme gets the thumbs down from me
