Late tomato blight
« on: September 28, 2023, 17:23 »
Hi, my greenhouse tomatoes are succumbing to blight ( not surprising as it has been dreadfully wet and I probably did not keep up the best ventilation).
I have removed all the leaves from the plants about 20 but still have a huge number of ripe or nearly ripe tomatoes. Should I pick them now or is it safe to leave them in situ? I know with potatoes you should remove the haulms asap if blight has struck to save the crop but not sure if I need to get picking the tomatoes quickly to save them too. Thanks

Welcome to the forums  :)

My experience has been that they are likely to become affected, but others may have better advice than that!
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Thank you @Yorkie think it probably a good idea to pick what is left just in case. Can always use the green ones in chutney!

Definitely cook up or eat as soon as you can, or make tomato sauce and freeze/ store in sterilised jars. In my experience if blight is visible in the plants the fruit will have been affected and become softer and softer with time, even if picked before it looks visibly affected.
