we have 5 dalek bins filled with veg scraps and horse manure when its rotted down it seems to be ok for mulch  on the ground we never put any food waste in the bins or use it for seed sowings

its really going to be a suck it and see when the peat ban kicks in although we have been trying several brans of peat free the peat free with john inns came out on top for quality the downside was its costing more to buy per bag

talking about next years compost I was looking on line to get some compost prices and I went onto Garden Superstore and looked at a price for Sylvagrow peat free all purpose compost that's supposed to be a good brand and it looked like they where selling it at  at £18.99 for X1 40LTR +Delivery at around £6.99 now I don't know if I read this wrong but it seemed quite expensive for a bag of compost

That does seem very expensive, even though it a 40 liter bag

I am sure Sainsburys are still doing their bags of compost (peat Free) for 2 for 12 quid

I've been making my own, but I'm not sure if it needs any additives, my compost smells like compost, a nice earthy smell (when its dried out)

I've been using it for many years, it helps in my dalek composter, which needs all the help it can get

I picked up 5 bags of new horizon from morrisons end of season sale, they were £3 a bag I think. And also a couple of bales of the coco coir they sold, £2.50 each. I wouldnt have paid the £12 or whatever they were when not on sale. They are supposed to expand to 70l. Intention is to mix them with compost for my potting mix. Outside beds just get whatever I can make in the compost bays

I'm hoping to get enough of my home-grown compost going, to mix with the new stuff and maybe there'll be enough in the mix to get the germination going!

Sadly, I've also learned today that my local GC may be closing next year, and I'm absolutely bereft...

They have loads of the real, proper, peaty Jack's Magic, and I may well bite the bullet and buy the whole lot they have left and store it here! I don't know how long it will last, but there's only one way to find out...
