How's your apple crop?
« on: August 14, 2023, 19:06 »
Mine is looking incredible on 7 trees. The hot spring/early summer and wet July/August seems to have worked wonders. Now I just need some sunshine to ripen them. Despite this, the pears and plums have done worse than I can ever remember

My two Apple trees are both heavily laden at present.
I have some plums too but nothing compared to the apples.
Keep digging

Only got one Bramley which is quite laden.  Like others, the plum and the damson have done very little

I have some apples that have finally been produced on a couple of trees that were severely pruned three years ago. Our Darwin apple in a tub had flowers but no fruit unlike last year which eventually fell off in June. The plum which was also severely pruned produced loads of fruit last year and done the same this year. Am presuming it's a Victoria but don't know.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Looking at the 3 apple trees near my garden or allotment, all seem to have barely any apples this year after being laden last year. They must be having a year off

Mine too. Last year my Winter Greening was laden and kept us in apples for months. This year it has produced healthy looking apples, just not many.

My mature but stunted apple tree - I think it was a step-over at one time in it's life - was covered in fruits this year - dozens of them (See pic). A lot dropped in June but there were plenty left to grow bigger. The two mature Victoria Plums which were SO laden last year didn't produce a dozen plums between them. I put it partly down to a bit of over-pruning on my part in spring, but seems it may not be all my fault (For once!)

My large bramley is about half what it normally produces. Allotment ones seem similar to last year but they don't produce much as they are small and grown as a cordon and I don't look after them. The victoria  plum tree produced nothing at all this year. We had a frost april25th which was pretty hard, I don't know if that was what killed them off. Or perhaps it was last years bumper crop that wore the poor tree out

Our cooking apple tree at the allotment is laden with fruit almost to breaking point.
I have no idea what variety it is, we inherited it.  It's not a Bramley.
We pruned it last autumn, don't know if that encouraged a good crop.
Surplus shared with plot neighbours.
