Hello

I grow peas each year, save seeds etc from the ones the kids don't demolish. I start a few off at home, but generally just sitck the peas in the ground after a soak and let them do there thing. I have lots of seeds so can take some losses.

I ordered some Kent Blue seeds a few years ago - 10 in fact. First year (4 seeds) was a disaster and they all got nibbled by something. Last year I thought I'd save some seeds but can't seem to locate them so now find myself with only 2 remaining original peas.

I've soaked them, and they have germinated. I've put them in small pots for now to get started.

Once they are up how would you look after them? In the ground / pots /netted / cloche etc.

I just want to grow them this year for seeds so I can plant a lot next year - if they fail I think that's it as I couldn't see them listed anymore with HSL.

Once you plant them out, depending on height at that point, I would consider protecting them for a while against birds, e.g. with net or wire. Sparrows love pea shoots ... !!

There's also an old thread by a member here called DD., which may be helpful:

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Thanks Yorkie.

I've seen quite a few of DD's threads, but had missed that one. I'm going to try my main peas the way they done in those photos, instead of just climing up. Easier setup also, I think!

I'll definitely net them.
