Excellent stuff, well done
Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet, and so are you.
But the roses are wilting, the violets are dead, the sugar bowl's empty, and so is your head.

Thanks guys, spent another couple of hours at the plot again today and only have about 5' left to clear in the first bed. Then the harder work begins in clearing the second bed!

Heres how far we got today!

I know it looks like my Father in Law is doing all the work but honest, i only stopped to take a couple of snaps.

I think he will be registering on the site so you will be able to tell him yourself.

Its been great having his help, without him i wouldn't be anywhere near where we are with it now. Cheers Keith!

First bed is now totally dug. We shifted the removed weeds etc in to a pile where our compost bin will be.

Here is the cleared bed.

The only reason we done so well was that the Supervisor was on site!

This is bed 2 that we are tackling next. I was considering hiring a rotivator but having dug a couple of foot out the soil again is very light so should not be to much hard work. The only down side is that there are alot of weeds and grass to remove. Might have to re-consider the rotivator if the going gets tough.

Good work Glen (and Father in Law) - soooooooooooo satisfying when you lean on your fork at the end of the day and see what you've achieved.
Which site are you at in Dunstable ?

Hi Novice, nice to see another local on here! Were plot 8 at Pascombe Road.

Had another good session this morning, and managed to achieve this in bed 2!

Got a quarter dug over and another quarter cleared of top weeds ready to be dug. Fingers crossed by the end of next weekend we should be ready to plant the first of our crops!

I agree Novice, i like to spend 5 mins at the end of a session looking at the plot and slap myself on the back for what i have achieved and plan what i am going to do at the next visit.

As you may of read we are now digging over the second bed in my plot. This is our progress so far! Hopefully, if we get a dry weekend, we shall have it finished and be ready for planting on Sunday!

That is a great effort, I have plenty of work to do over the next few days.

EDIT - Is there any secret to getting the soil so fine, or is it purely digging and re digging the soil?

its worth the effort!

the secret is - more effort   i run the tines of my fork diagonally across the surface, that breaks up big lumps, then its a case of going back and forth with the rake until the lumps all break up, and its level.

good work there Glen, get those raspberries thinned out as well while your at it!
