Chilli identification
« on: September 03, 2020, 13:51 »
This chilli plant was given to me earlier this year by a grateful neighbour for finding their missing cat, which turned out to have been hiding behind my kitchen units for 9 days.

Neither they nor I know what type it is (I've only ever grown cayenne) and I realise it's a bit of a long shot given the number of varieties available to grow these days.

The orange one is the first to ripen, so I've no idea whether it will go on to become red or stay as it is.

I can think of several varieties it can't possibly be - anyone have any idea what it might be?

Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Absolutely no idea on the chilli variety, but it's a great background view through the window.

Could be Bulgarian Carrot with the orange colouring and that shape.

Yup, could be P1P - let's hope it doesn't turn red and hugely increase the possibilities!

They look similar to the Hungarian Hot Wax variety I grew this year

Decided that orange was the final colour of the ripe fruit, so, precautionary glass of water at the ready, I gingerly nibbled at the end of a fruit and discovered no heat whatsoever!

They must be a sweet rather than a chilli pepper, and rather small at that, unless the next one turns out to skin the inside of my mouth!

Could be hot wax then as they are relatively mild .

How much of a nibble did you give it as the very tip is not always as hot as further back.
A second 6mm nibble can often change your view and make you more cautious with amounts used.

Thanks for that info 8D - I'll do some further investigation, especially as I was going to chop a couple of them into a bolognese sauce for tea today!  ::)
