I have just opened my foil pack of climbing french bean seeds, but quite a few of them are not entirely a creamy white colour all around. A good percentage have varying degrees of light brown spots/patches. Can anyone put me straight on whether these should still be a viable seed, or should be discarded.

The seeds may well be mottled but the should be viable regardless... sow them and find out in ten days or so

French bean seeds can be many different colours and patterns, according to variety, and even within the same variety they can vary, so don't worry - just plant them

Thanks for the prompt reply from the both of you, sometimes I forget that nature doesn't always make itself perfect looking. As you may have guessed, I am very new to this game of gardening.
