Feeding onions?
« on: July 12, 2019, 22:07 »
Should I still be feeding my Stuttgarter/Senshyu Yellow onions, and if so, what?

I have been trying to keep them green up till now with a high N feed every 1-2 weeks (+ seaweed), but perhaps comfrey is more appropriate at this stage?

Water if the weather is dry and give an occasional feed with a general liquid fertiliser. A light feed of sulphate of potash in June will help ripen the bulbs ready for storage. Stop watering and feeding once the onions have swollen in mid summer. Remove any flower spikes as soon as you see them.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Thanks Goosegirl.

I did already give them a light feed of wood ash, a couple of months back, but a few of them bolted following that, so I'm weary of giving them any more now. Would they be less likely to bolt now?

So I guess one more feed of potash, and just water when dry from now on?
