Lack of show from seeds.
« on: April 16, 2017, 18:25 »
Is it just me or is anyone having problems growing Tomato's this year. I got new compost and new seeds and nothing has grown. They have all been in a couple of weeks now and nothing. Think I will just start again this week. It's not really a problem, just asking.

No problems germinating my tomatoes. Is the compost too wet? or perhaps they aren't warm enough?

I'm having problems too! Don't know why.  Only the Sungold have germinated, non of the Suncherry Premium.  I have ordered more seeds, but it's getting a bit late.

I have just started mine this week in a window sill propagator, both batches just poking above the soil.

Here's to more success next time  ::) 8)

Tomatoes are fine, had a lot of problems germinating chillies though.

Funnily enough, I am about to move my latest sowings somewhere warmer as Mum suggests, which is ridiculous, as the cukes next to them came up without any probs.

And the seeds of 2 varieties I bought this year.

No problems here either, second sowing about three inches tall (four varieties), first sowing about eighteen inches ( five varieties) and the black krim developing stems like redwoods.

I've had really bad propagating performance from F1 tomato and onion and parsnip seeds from Dobies this year despite exactly the same methodology used. Never had so much trouble. Have had to do 4 repeat sowings of toms to get what I would normally get in one. And in the case of the parsnips have had to buy some reliable Wilkinsons seeds instead.
Reliable seed is essential or whole crops can be missed.

Tomatoes are fine, had a lot of problems germinating chillies though.

Same here - tomatoes are fine, but its been a bit variable with the peppers and chillies.  I bought a new variety called Trinidad Perfume and it took 3 goes and all the seeds in the pack to get 1 plant.  They were from Suttons.

I also had problems getting Amanda sweet peppers going, so I can't rule out operator error.  Everything else - Lipstick and Supergreen sweet peppers, Potblack and Peach chillies were fine though.

I had the same... cucumbers up within five days but tomatoes only started coming up after nine days. Some varieties are still not poking their heads out so I am feeling somewhat impatient to see them now on Day 12
