Can anyone help/advise me of how to sex some chickens? I have two Buff Orpingtons, which are 4wks old, they both look different one has a red comb & one doesnt! Does this mean i have one hen & one Cockerl?

I also have five Light Sussexs, and would be grateful also for any advise on what the differences are between Hens & cockerels they are 3 weeks old.

1 is flippin noisy at 4 am in the summer, the other shouts when laying the afore mentions egg

girls have round end feathers, boys are pointy

at 3 and 4 wks i think they are a little young to tell yet.

but as they grow, you will clearly see whos a what.

It isn't easy to sex chickens at 4 weeks old.  Ours were about ooooh, 8 weeks plus when I noticed the cockerels combs and wattles were getting bigger and redder than the others, and you can do an internal inspection.  I've got a book that tells you how to do it, but I've never actually tried it out.

you think thats bad, one of the blokes who worked for my dad thought that they coughed the eggs up :?

no hurry grannie, i have two tshirts to do but keep forgetting coz of other stuff. busy busy  
i went and had a cuppa with mumsy, last week..ish and we did say we might actually drive down to you in the summer. only a couple of hours and with tom tom its easy.
