What to sow direct in July
« on: July 01, 2016, 10:48 »
Hi all

I'm in Kent, South East England and today, they tell me, is the 1st of July!

As I have some space, I was wondering which veg people are planning to sow direct today or in the next few days/week?

All thoughts and ideas welcome and many thanks in advance!

Kenneth

I'll keep sowing salad stuff for the next few weeks (mesclun, rocket, radish etc) to ensure continuity for as long as possible, and will also be sowing Swiss chard, perpetual spinach (spinach beet) and Florence Fennel (one of these years I'll get that last one right - seem to be always either too early, too late, or possibly it just doesn't want to perform in my garden! )
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Good luck with the Florence fennel JayG I love but it always bolts when I sow it!! Just sowed some more French beans must sow some more lettuce and possible risk some fennel again.

I have probably just done my last sowing of the year...some rocket, salad, some beetroot (the yellow ones for something different).  my leeks that were looking rather sad, I potted on into modules to try to get them going before I plant them where the potatoes have been dug out.

I did notice some over wintering salad things in the garden center when I was looking at the seeds, so it may be worth a look for something to keep you going.  I may well do the same as I have some nice tunnel things that I picked up cheap earlier in the year.

Just sown in pots at home some white beetroot and yellow dwarf french beans. Will sow at plot some chard, turnips and swede.
